The 3rd Edition of GreenChemAfrica Explored Applications of Green Chemistry and Sustainable Processes

From the 19th to the 24th of April, the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SUSMAT-RC) hosted the 3rd edition of the African Training School on Green Chemistry and Environmental Sustainability (GreenChemAfrica) 2026 at UM6P Campus in Benguerir.

The program convened international experts and participants for a series of sessions on green chemistry principles and their applications in research and industry. Discussions covered the foundations of green chemistry, sustainable production methods, and the integration of environmental considerations into chemical design.

Sessions focused on topics such as biodegradable materials, phosphorus chemistry, biomimicry, solvent systems, and urban mining. Contributions highlighted approaches to improving material design, reducing environmental impact, and optimizing resource use across chemical processes.

The program also explored practical strategies for waste reduction, energy efficiency, and circularity, including plastic recycling, greener polymerization techniques, and the recovery of critical metals and phosphorus. Interactive formats, such as roundtables and an e-poster session, facilitated exchanges on ongoing research and applications.
