Participants from the INSPIRE program visited the “Association de Lutte Contre le Sida (ALCS)” in Casablanca for a discussion on Dr. Hakima Himmich's, the ALCS's founder and honorary president, personal journey within the broader social and political context.
Dr. Himmich reflected on her early questioning of gender roles and her decision to pursue a career that combined medical practice and public engagement. As a physician, she identified the first documented HIV case in Morocco and later contributed to establishing ALCS, the first organization in the MENA region dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
The discussion examined how ALCS integrates public health action, advocacy, and community-based strategies. It provided insight into the connections between individual engagement, medical practice, and collective action in addressing social and public health issues.
