IAS conference discussed mechanisms of order and disorder in two-dimensional physics

On the 30th of October, the Institute for Advanced Studies, in collaboration with the School of Physics Applied & Engineering, organized a conference entitled “Order in Two Dimensions” led by Prof. Leticia Cugliandolo, Professor at Sorbonne University, within UM6P Campus in Benguerir.
In her lecture, Prof. Cugliandolo emphasized the fundamentals of melting in two-dimensional systems, where order and disorder arise through distinctive mechanisms. She explored the transitions between solid, hexatic, and liquid phases, extending the analysis to active matter and the collective behavior of self-propelled particles.
The seminar provided an engaging platform for discussion at the frontiers of physics research and reflected the interdisciplinary outlook of IAS.
