This week, University Mohammed VI Polytechnic participated in the Global Refugee Forum Progress Review 2025 held in Geneva and organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The event reviewed progress on commitments made during the 2023 Global Refugee Forum in support of the Global Compact on Refugees and outlined priorities ahead of the 2027 Forum.
Pr. Myriam Cherti and Dr. Leen De Nutte, representing the International Development Research Center (IDRC) Research Chair at UM6P, took part in a panel discussion on how higher education can strengthen responses to forced displacement. Professor Cherti emphasized refugee agency and leadership in policy and practice, highlighting the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UM6P as an example of higher education engagement.
Pr. Cherti also led a panel on implementing the route-based approach, which included representatives from Refugees Seeking Equal Access at the Table (R-SEAT), the Norwegian government, UNHCR, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Additionally, the team joined a discussion on how academic research and evidence can support the functioning of the global refugee system.
