Micrometeorite Analysis and Planetary Formation Discussed During IAS Seminar

On the 11th of February, the Institute for Advanced Studies hosted a lecture titled "Tiny Messengers All Around Us: Micrometeorites as a Rich Sample Source for Solar System History," presented by Andrea Miedtank, a BSc candidate in Geological Sciences at the Free University of Berlin.
The seminar highlighted advances in micrometeorite research and explored how these extraterrestrial particles provide insights into the formation and evolution of the Solar System.
The presentation covered their origins from asteroid collisions and cometary activity, how they interact with Earth's atmosphere, the methods used to find and collect them in environments such as deserts and cities, and how micrometeorites help reconstruct past events in the Solar System's history.
