On the 9th of February, the Geology & Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) organized a workshop titled "An Overview of Applied Geophysics Research at UQAT: Achievements and New Developments", at UM6P Campus in Benguerir. The event was led by Pr. Li Zhen Cheng, Full Professor of Applied Geophysics at the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT).
The session explored the development of geoenvironmental prediction tools; performance evaluation of mine tailings covers using automated measurements; detection methods for historical and deep-mining infrastructure; and characterization protocols for environments with low physical-property contrasts in mining waste management.
The workshop provided insights into current research trends and practical uses of geophysics related to sustainable mining and environmental monitoring, supporting ongoing research.
