University Mohammed VI Polytechnic, through the African Research Center on Air Quality and Climate (ARC_Air), implemented a Brewer spectrophotometer at its Campus in Benguerir.
The ground-based instrument measures atmospheric ozone and ultraviolet (UV) radiation by analyzing sunlight at specific wavelengths, thereby generating precise, continuous data. The installation enhances national monitoring capacity for the ozone layer, located between 15 and 35 kilometers above the Earth’s surface, which absorbs 97–99% of harmful Ultraviolet B (UV-B) radiation.
By enabling long-term atmospheric observations, the initiative aims to support environmental monitoring efforts and advance atmospheric science research in Morocco and across Africa.
