GSMI Seminar Assessed Geochronological Insights on Active Tectonics

On the 10th of March, the Geological and Sustainable Mining Institute hosted a seminar with Professor Jérôme Van der Woerd from the University of Strasbourg at the University’s campus in Benguerir.

The session focused on active tectonics in northern Tibet, especially on the Qilian Shan restraining bend, where strain from the India–Asia collision is transferred between the Altyn Tagh and Haiyuan strike-slip faults.

The presentation explained deformation mechanisms in these major fault systems and their effect on regional seismic activity. The seminar included 30 participants from the University community and online attendees.
