On the 15th of January, the Arabic Classical Philosophy & Philosophy of Science (ACPPS) held a seminar titled "The Facilitation of Knowledge in Almohad Times" at the University’s Campus in Benguerir. The lecture was delivered by Pr. Maribel Fierro, Research Professor at the Institute for the Languages and Cultures of the Mediterranean (CSIC).
The seminar explored how knowledge was promoted during the Almohad period by analyzing scholarly works created under the first three Almohad caliphs. Particular attention was given to the contributions of Abū Marwān ʿAbd al-Malik b. Zuhr (Avenzoar) and Ibn Rushd al-Ḥafīd (Averroes).
The discussion also addressed the role of salaried scholarly elites (ṭalaba), who were trained to teach the public and spread doctrine.
