On the 13th of January, the Institute for Advanced Studies hosted a seminar titled "From the Complex Plane to Riemann Surfaces: A Complex Journey Through the History of Geometry," led by Ahmed Zeriahi, Professor Emeritus at the Toulouse Institute of Mathematics and Guest Scholar at IAS.
During the presentation, Professor Zeriahi reviewed the historical development of geometry, from its Euclidean origins to the emergence of non-Euclidean geometries, highlighting the central role of Riemann surfaces in modern mathematical theory.
The seminar also explored links among geometry, topology, and complex analysis, as well as extensions to higher-dimensional structures through the study of Kähler manifolds.
