UM6P and African Partners Advanced Dialogue on Sustainable Mining and Mineral Traceability

On the 13th of May, the Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) organized a workshop on responsible mineral development in Africa at UM6P Campus in Bengeurir.

The event convened experts, researchers, and institutional partners to address topics such as geoscience, mineral traceability, infrastructure, and critical raw materials. Contributions included perspectives from Dr. Thamer Aldaajani of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), who addressed interdisciplinary approaches to mineral traceability, and from Dr. Paul Noumba Um, a visiting professor at Africa Business School, who examined infrastructure from systemic and institutional perspectives.

On the sidelines of the event, University Mohammed VI Polytechnic, through GSMI, and the Center of Expertise, Evaluation and Certification of Precious and Semi-Precious Mineral Substances (CEEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement, signed by Mr. Muamba Kanyinku Freddy, General Director of CEEC, and Mr. Abdelhadi Sohib, Director General and Vice-Chancellor of the University, aims to strengthen cooperation among African institutions in the mining sector.

The collaboration is intended to support the development of the mining sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through applied research, capacity building, and knowledge exchange.
